A first attempt to prevent amblyopia and squint by spectacle correction of abnormal refractions from age 1 year.

چکیده
Spectacle correction of unusually hypermetropic refractions from age 1 year did not reduce the incidence of squint or amblyopia, nor did it lead to a reduction in the severity of residual amblyopia after subsequent occlusion.

Screening for refractive errors at age 1 year: a pilot study.
Cycloplegic refraction of 1-year-old children is technically possible and is acceptable to mothers as a method for screening children for visual defects. The range of refractions found in a sample of 186 1-year-old children is reported. Prediction of which children are significantly at risk for squint and/or amblyopia is possible on the basis of refractions at age 1 year according to the criter...
متن کاملResults of a randomised trial of treating abnormal hypermetropia from the age of 6 months.
Children who were abnormally hypermetropic at the age of 6 months were randomly allocated treatment with spectacles or no treatment. The eventual incidence of squint was the same in both groups (approximately 24%). The last known visual acuity of the two groups was not significantly different either. Therefore there is no indication to screen infants with a view to preventing squint/amblyopia b...
متن کاملprevalence of Amblyopia in 7-8 year old students of primary schools of Kerman city during the year 1996.
Amblyopia is an acquired defect in ocular vision that is due to abnormal visual acuity which can be unilateral of bilateral, and can not be directly related to structural defects or optic radiation.Amblyopia can be effectively treated during the first decade of lift in most cases.for this reason in a cross sectional study in 1996 with multistage random sampling 1726 students in age 7-8 years old...
متن کاملA consideration of binocular parameters in the spectacle correction of anisometropic amblyopia: A Case Report
Background: Recent evidence points to the use of spectacles alone in the treatment of anisometropic amblyopia. However, the impact of this treatment on the restoration of binocular vision is often not considered. Case Report: Patient M.Z., aged 7 years, showed 3.5D of anisometropia which was coupled with a best corrected visual acuity of 6/38 in the more hyperopic eye (6/6 in the non-amblyopic ...
متن کاملSpectacle correction of heterophoria in hyperopic amblyopic children
Objective: To test the effects of corrective spectacles in hyperopic amblyopic children with heterophoria. Methods: Visual acuity, refraction and the amount of heterophoria on near (33 cm) fixation were measured before and after 3 weeks of spectacle-wearing in 30 hyperopic amblyopic children with heterophoria. The control group consisted of 20 emmetropic children age-matched to the patients. Re...
